Carpet in Basements
The Benefits Of Covering Your Basement Floors with Wall-To-Wall Carpet
Basement Carpet / Carpeting Basement is the most inexpensive, practical, and easy to maintain solution for households that are looking for a cozy area to function. Most synthetic fibre carpets are easy to salvage even though water damage from clear water occurs.
There are many benefits to using carpeting, including:
Ready to carpet your basement?
Carpeting the basement is not only practical but an inexpensive option to have a cozy area as well. No one wants to step into a cold basement. Why not add some texture and softness that will help with heat insulation as well. A cold basement is not fun! You are not the only one who has cringed at one point or another, walking into the basement of a friend and having to step on an ice-cold basement floor. Nobody likes that!
And the reality is that the majority of basement floors are in sad shape. They are either uneven, cracked, or have chips that require expensive leveling and preparation before being covered with any flooring material – “any flooring material except carpet!”
Enter The Practical and Inexpensive Solution
Carpet, along with the proper underpad, will be incredibly forgiving, allowing you to hide even the most imperfect areas. Carpet cushion can go by a few different names (underlay, carpet padding, or carpet underpad), but regardless of what you call it, it will work wonders. By installing the right underpad and carpet over damaged, uneven floors it is possible to basically hide the level differences, making them invisible to the naked eye and quite difficult to feel them without causing any negative effects both on your carpet and underpad.

How Much Does Carpeting a Basement Will Cost?
The cost for a 450 square foot basement is generally between $1075 +HST ($2.39 per sq ft) and $1930.50 +HST ($4.29 per sq ft). A straight set of stairs enclosed on both sides would add another (for the same square footage) +/- $190 +HST. Removal, disposal, floor prep (if required), furniture moving, floor transitions, special upholstery for stairs, or cement ledges are extra. These prices are what we sell at most. There are less and higher cost of carpet and underpads available. However, this price range gives you a wide range of options to choose from.

What about Wool Carpeting?
Wool and wool blend carpets should only be installed in well-ventilated and dry areas because they are more vulnerable to mold and mildew growth due to their biodegradable elements. Most high-end wool and wool blend carpets are also heavily treated with harsh chemicals to guard against bugs and moths. Remember those good old days how our mother used to store our wool sweaters carefully to protect them? While synthetic fibre carpets are a natural repellent, there is nothing that a living organism can benefit from a synthetic carpet.
In comparison with the other areas in a home, basements rank the highest for moisture and temperature changes. Installing a synthetic fibre carpet such as Nylon, Polypropylene (a.k.a. Olefin) or Polyester filament is a great option as it easily adjusts with temperature changes, shrinking or expanding. Additionally, synthetic fibre carpets have latex backing which actually helps the carpet to be more flexible.
In the event of a flood or water damage in your basement, synthetic fibre carpet is the only flooring product that can be salvaged.
So – what are you waiting for? Tell your friends! Carpeting the basement is a great idea. In fact, it is more than just “okay” to use it in your basement. Carpeting your basement with a Plush, Sisal, Cut-Pile or Berber Carpet is the smartest choice – fashionably, practically, and financially.
